Enough nurses in TT
THE EDITOR: I would like to bring to the attention of Mr John Rahael a few issues pertaining to trained nurses at the San Fernando General Hospital, since he seems to be in the dark or to quote "has his eyes wide shut." Firstly, Mr Minister you say that you are training so many nurses and that nurses are so needed. Well, let me bring you up to speed. Since June 27, 2005 these nurses have been Registered Nurses and yet they are not employed by the South-West Regional Health Authority, on the opposite end North West Regional Health Authority have already employed all their nurses (they have signed contracts). Please note Mr Minister that there is a gross shortage of nurses at the San Fernando General Hospital. Why is it that NWRHA pays their new nurses retro while SWRHA pays their new nurses nothing, please bear in mind that these new nurses have been functioning on the wards as registered nurses, but have not been hired or are not receiving a trained nurses’ salary. It is also known that COSTAATT nurses get retro as soon as they become trained nurses while San Fernando Ministry of Health trained nurses receive nothing. Are we all not functioning at the same level? Ministry of Health nurses work shift at the beginning, during and after their training and yet they get nothing. Mr Minister, we are pleading with you to assist us in our plight, because we need our back pay and employment as soon as possible. RITA THOMPSON-GAY Trained Nurse La Romain
