Government ministers gone mad
THE EDITOR: Madness runs merrily along. Whom the Gods wish to destroy they first make mad! Is that not true? Imbert wants to build a new port at Sea Lots for over $2 billion at a major river mouth to replace the existing port at Port-of-Spain, is that not madness? Rahael wants to amend the Pharmacy Board Act to allow foreign used Filipino pharmacists to work without 500 hours of supervision by local pharmacists as required by the Act, is that not madness? The Minister of National Security says that with the exorbitant purchases of new technology the police have turned the corner in their work after there have been so many homicides, is that not madness? The Prime Minister challenges the business community to give back to the community after he has spent over $31 billion in less than 12 months, is that not madness? The Prime Minister’s wife says that she is not to be held responsible for not achieving even one single promise in the last budget and she has spent at least $2 billion of taxpayers’ money, is that not madness. The PNM plans to spend over $2 billion on a sporting complex in Tarouba where there are at least seven others not utilised, is that not madness? The PNM buys Eye in the Sky, things that are used to watch a building being demolished, the back of a shopping mall and a car park, is that not madness? A policeman fires off seven rounds of bullets killing another policeman while he was allegedly clearing his gun and the Commissioner of Police says that it was an unfortunate accident initially.
