Cops need your info
THE EDITOR: After reading Crime Stoppers (TT) chairman Devrol Dupingny’s report of the Police’s success to date through information supplied to Crime Stoppers (for money by way of reward, of course) it would be my guess that we are, in the main, witness to the enterprise of one gang working against another rather than social conscience! Not one murder nor kidnapping is included in this worthy effort on the part of a "law abiding society" whom he is imploring to do their squealing — simply illegal firearms, narcotics and stolen items. 3,105 investigations and 2,054 offences being cleared with 204 persons being arrested and charged. Crime Stoppers has paid approximately $300,000 in rewards during the period under review to seize $196m in illegal drugs, 95 illegal firearms, $2.7m in stolen property and recovery of 1611 rounds of ammunition. Of 3,105 investigations, 2,054 were cleared. Really Mr Dupingny, wake up and smell the coffee! How many of the law abiding citizens have a clue about what is going down in our nation, and any that do are probably equally terrified of police involvement. Let’s face it, as long as we are faced with the current dilemma we shall just have to continue to pay for our information — unless SUATT and the Police Service can somehow begin to live up their mandate "to protect and serve," which has become a cruel joke, as indicated in the comments to the recently escaped kidnap victim, by his abductors. I hasten to add that Mr Manning’s much vaunted, and controversial, Police Service reform is no more likely to achieve this end, since, clearly it is not his primary motivation either. Unfortunately, the stables need a thorough cleaning. Until such time as that occurs, we have no alternative but to keep paying through our noses — protection, ransom and yes, Crime Stoppers pay offs.
