Backbencher Yetming should go back to electorate

THE EDITOR: I note with regret that St Joseph MP Gerald Yetming did not go the next logical step when you have lost confidence in the leader, on whose back he rode to Parliament, and that is resign his seat in Parliament and seek a fresh mandate.

Parliamentarians who won their seats on a party ticket should not simply say that they wash their hands from the party and mount the back bench. Where is the morality?

Basdeo Panday is correct when he said that politics has a morality of its own. Had it not been so, then Gillian Lucky, Fuad Khan and now Gerald Yetming would have tendered their resignation and go back to the electorate.

It is still time for Gillian, Fuad and Gerald to prove Panday wrong that politics does have a morality of its own. Until this threesome seek a new mandate I stand convinced that they owe their seats to the invincible Basdeo Panday.
