Crime is in control

THE EDITOR: Violent gangs are more sophisticated, organised, larger, more violent and more widespread than ever in our country’s history and they pose a growing threat to the daily security and safety of our citizens.

The skyrocketing problem of kidnapping and cold blooded murders has made it clear that, at this point, the Government in spite of its best efforts, is unable to control it on its own. The existing patchwork of ‘solutions’ by our authorities verifies our national dilemma. Government must involve all of our peoples.

While our authorities are grappling with our crime problems, our personal security is being seriously compromised daily in our homes and businesses.

Experts know that, the more you do the safer you are. Under the prevailing crisis conditions, the Government must engage all of our citizens to help fight crime by immediately removing or drastically reducing all duties and taxes on all security equipment, thereby allowing us to help in protecting our families at home and our extended families at our business places, by making security equipment affordable to all and not just the wealthy.

To date, the Government with all of its good intentions has failed to demonstrate sufficient urgency, focus and attention to safeguarding our peoples against, the heightened risk facing each and everyone of us in our homes and business places because, they are trying to solve the crime problem on their own, without involving each and every citizen.

Complacency has never been wise, but at this time of increasing uncertainty, it has become outright dangerous and irresponsible.

It is time the government immediately, revisit taxes imposed on all security equipment, to make it affordable for the entire population to protect ourselves, at least in our homes and business places, and give our citizens a fair chance in fighting crime. Crime is not out of control anymore. Crime is now in control. The time for urgency is now.
