Gun amnesty welcomed
THE EDITOR: It is refreshing and a deep sense of personal satisfaction to view and hear on national television the National Security Minister Martin Joseph is prepared to revisit the question of a gun amnesty as part of the battle against crime. I was one of the first persons to disagree with the minister’s position that such a move will be of no effect. I thought it a very inept statement, especially being advised by co-called experts. Needless to say I was in total bewilderment and bemused that expert advice will advocate against a gun amnesty in Trinidad and Tobago. By any stretch of the imagination, such a measure can do no harm at worst. And at best, confiscate large amounts of guns from the hands of miscreants. To think otherwise is being extremely naive. It has no negative political connotation, and will assist in the battle against crime. ALFRED GEORGE Laventille
