Panday, Ramesh right for each other

THE EDITOR: The sudden introduction of Ramesh Maharaj into the political affairs of the United National Congress at this time is proof that neither he nor Basdeo Panday have the interest of our country at heart.

It was Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj who campaigned aggressively to put Panday and his whole government into opposition. This resulted in the subsequent expulsion of Maharaj from the UNC by Panday and his consequent demise to a political nobody. After this Maharaj has failed to attract any mass support.

It is ironic now to see him again campaigning to keep Panday as the Leader of the Opposition.

It may be that Panday and Maharaj believe that they can best serve the people from the opposition benches. Panday’s behaviour over the last several years seems to indicate that he has a mental fixation with the post of Leader of the Opposition since he has spent the far greater time of his long political life as such. All this while Winston Dookeran is attempting to reunite and prepare the UNC to form the next government.

The supporters and friends of the United National Congress should take note of the true characteristic of these two men since they both have proven once again that they are "right for each other".

Today in light of Maharaj’s aggressive defence of Panday, after all the allegations levelled in the past against Panday by him, one cannot help but ask the question, what has changed between Ramesh and Panday.
