UNC can smell victory
THE EDITOR: The PNM is at the end of its tether. No longer can it proudly proclaim Magnum est PNM et Prevalebit. And the rock on which it has crashed is crime. The boast of the party at the time of its inception was that it had come to bring morality in public affairs. Its professional mission was to bring law and order. Never before in the history of our country has there been more corruption and crime than there is today in what was once our fair land. Not only has the miasma of corruption pervaded the PNM, but its stark inability to control crime, especially murder and kianapping and drugs, has now made Trinidad and Tobago a society filled with fear. Businessmen whose families are kidnapped or against whom kidnap attempts have been made, are selling out and fleeing. Who are the people making bargain buys? Are they inciting kidnapping in their hunt for bargains? Victory for the UNC is at hand only if they use a new broom to sweep clean. Panday sets up Dookeran to be the leader of the Party. He gives him the mantle of leadership — but he keeps the mantle with the pocket for himself — he claims that he is the leader of the Opposition. As Cicero said, "There are some things which are not fitting, even if they are lawful." BALGOBIN RAMDEEN Maraval
