It’s becoming too expensive to worship

THE EDITOR: Surely the government of Trinidad and Tobago has thought it best to raise the personal allowance of the working class people of this country so that they may have more disposable cash for themselves, not thinking of the damaging effects it would have on the poor, needy, and members of religious organisations.

At present some of our pundits and leaders of Hindu religious groups has a fixed price for performing religious ceremonies in the region of hundreds of dollars, not including the cost of the items to be purchased for the various ceremonies.

Next, some of our Muslim Jamaats also has a Zakaat their members have to pay and if they are unable to do so they might not be accepted in their Mosques or Masjids.

Also some of our Christian organisations their members have to pay tithe and if unable to do so they may not be welcome in their churches.

At present some of our religious organisations are engaging the services of pastors, religious leaders, and gospel groups, etc from other countries and to attend such functions or crusades, your tickets or entrance fee might be in the region of $50 to $100.

Did this government of our country ever give these things a thought, or are they aware of these hardships the poor, needy and senior citizens have to endure because what the rich and middle class have to pay for anything the poor, needy and senior citizen have to pay the same. Do they know that money is the root of all evil?
