Why is Tessa different?

THE EDITOR: We have become a nation which has lost its self respect. Only our ego or our self aggrandisement or pecuniary benefit seems to matter. As we say, "If you big, you big. If not, crapaud smoke your pipe." How many days have passed since those criminals who wish to acquire wealth without working for it, have snatched a young girl named Tessa? How would you be feeling if she were your daughter?

The police seem to be as silent as the grave. Have they gone into a long sleep like Rip Van Winkle on the Tessa case? There was a report in the Press that in the office of a senior police officer part of the marked ransom money ($300,000) from a kidnapping was found. Nothing further has been heard of that. Who is policing the police?

Compare this attitude in the case of Tessa with the swift reaction when a member of the Lebanese/Syrian community was kidnapped. The police sprang into action. The high and the mighty of the protective services promptly appeared on the scene as well as members of the government.

Every arm of the service was galvanised into action.

Within a few days suspects were apprehended. Searches were mounted in the air and in the sea and on land. The most commendable alacrity. Why is Tessa different?
