Keep the faith

THE EDITOR: Now that the first TT vs Bahrain encounter has passed and largely failed to meet our expectations, we should not despair. Now more than ever we must muster a positive attitude and envisage Trinidad and Tobago’s flag flying high and proud in Germany.

While it appears that the Warriors did not play at the level employed to defeat Mexico, credit must be given to Bahrain’s goalkeeper for keeping the score-line tied at 1-1 by saving two great opportunities for TT. Another reason some believe to be instrumental in the sobering outcome was that insufficient time was allowed for the local squad to regroup and fully connect as the formidable team that they have become.

There will be numerous analyses bearing on the match and it is understood that disappointment is rife. Notwithstanding, having experienced Bahrain’s best efforts adjunct to the Warriors penchant to come from behind will serve us in good stead. This will be solidified when all nationals of TT concentrate on the same goal — the inevitable defeat of the Bahrain squad in Bahrain and the ultimate reward of World Cup glory. As skipper Dwight Yorke said in a post match interview, "Keep the faith!"
