Correcting Grimes
THE EDITOR: I rise on two points of order to correct two reported statements attributed to CEO Cecil Grimes of WASA. 1) That the desalination plant "was commissioned during the UNC administration." CEO Grimes must get his information right. Although contracted by the UNC government, the desal plant was in fact commissioned in 2002 under the PNM. 2) That the desal plant "had a disruption a few days ago and was not operational. The plant was tripped and we are having problems. We are having lots of incidents." Facts: WASA employees say that the plant was shut down for approved, scheduled maintenance on November 9 and 10, but even on those days, millions of gallons of desalinated water were supplied to WASA. Production was fully back up on November 11, slightly ahead of the contracted daily delivery figure of 24 million imperial gallons. Unexpected electronic problems, and the theft of stainless steel bolts at the intake that sucks in seawater causing a magnificent fountain, resulted in a 30 to 50 percent drop in output for there days. November 21 - 23. Since then, it’s back to normal. ARTHUR LEO Diego Martin
