Bend it like Birchall
THE EDITOR: His name has hardly been mentioned and nothing much has been said about him, yet he made himself available to us from the very start of the campaign. He was born in England and when selected seemed to be the happiest person on the team. He is not a star and does not play for a top team, yet his level of play gives the impression that he does. He runs tirelessly for the full 90 minutes up and down, across the field and back much like the pistons of an engine firing away. With boundless enthusiasm and without stopping he goes on and on and on, much like the "Energiser Bunny." And at a crucial time just when we needed it, he came up with that amazing shot, and in a flash the ball was in the back of the net in the seventy-sixth minute. It was as though at that moment his right boot was guided by the Holy Spirit. The subject of this article plays in the English League for Port Vale, and his name is Christopher Birchall and it is only fitting that he was the one who gave us that lifeline into the Battle of Bahrain.
