Parang songwriter gets his due

THE EDITOR: On the initial production of our CD "Es el tiempo" we erroneously listed the song "Ay Maria" as traditional based on the information available to us at that time.

We were subsequently informed by COTT that the song in fact belonged to Mr Clifton Ryan and we made the necessary payment to COTT for the publication of one thousand copies of the CD.

Three weeks ago Mr Stephenson Neaves called me and informed me that he was the writer of the song and that the name was in fact "Celebramos Maria." I apologised for our error and immediately contacted COTT to have the royalties that we had paid transferred to Mr Neaves’ account. I also amended all my Live Performance playlists to reflect Mr Neaves as the writer of the song thus ensuring that he would receive all royalties to which he was entitled. I have today sent letters to all the radio stations which have copies of the song advising them of the inaccuracy of the CD labelling and requesting of them that they make the necessary adjustments to their playlists before submission to COTT.

I have also had the correct information put on to all the CDS that we have published after my discussion with Mr Neaves and I assure him that the correct information will appear on all future publications of the CD.

The members of the band extend their sincerest apologies to Mr Neaves for any inconvenience caused and again give him the assurance that we have done all in our power to ensure that his rights and royalties are protected.
