The true Christian spirit
THE EDITOR: One night, Conrad, a shoemaker, dreamed that Jesus Christ would come to his shop the following night. All morning he waited in anticipation, but the only visitor was an old man without shoes. Conrad put shoes on his feet. Throughout the afternoon the only person Conrad saw was an old woman who was tired and hungry. Out of compassion, Conrad gave her food and a place to rest. As night fell, a homeless child entered the shop. Conrad carried the child home. Finally in disappointment Conrad cried, "Lord you did not keep your promise." Then in an instant Jesus’ soft, sweet voice was heard, "Son, I have kept my word, I was the beggar with the bruised feet, I was the woman you gave to eat, I was the homeless child on the street!" May you find the joy of sharing with others in need. Then Christmas for you will not merely be a holiday, but a Holy Day. PATRICIA CHARLES Belmont
