Govt should ‘out-cheque’ Lok Jack
THE EDITOR: Perhaps a fitting and useful way to begin the leadership recovery process in our fair and beautiful land, is to establish a Leadership Faculty at the University of Trinidad and Tobago. If this is too bold, then a Leadership Unit at one of the University of Trinidad and Tobago’s facilities would do. Establish two chairs; one named for Professor Ken Julien, and the other named for Mr Gordon "management guru" Draper. Yes indeed, these two brilliant professionals stand out among the many mega brains/personalities in the landscape of management, leadership, visionary thought, and yes, academia, teaching, and implementation/execution. Who among us dare say that Gordon Draper did not do enough, to have the Institution named "The Gordon Draper Institute of Business?" How dishonest can we get? Of course Arthur Lok Jack is an outstanding citizen; mega entrepreneur, awesome global business specialist, and has contributed immensely to the promotion of Corporate Governance (even at the Institute of Business, where he has sat on the Board for many years), and the building of tremendous national assets. However, has he done enough to obliterate the work, the pioneering efforts, the vision, and labours of Mr Draper in building the Institute of Business? One shudders to think, that for a TT$20 million cheque, one name now stands forever on the records, and the other fades into oblivion. Surely the party Mr Draper served for many years could out-cheque Mr Lok Jack; after all we have billions to spare? K BARRINGTON THOMAS UK
