Corruption spelt with a capital ‘T’

THE EDITOR: Please allow me a small space in your newspaper to highlight a chronic problem plaguing our country. It seems that corrupt practices are the order of the day, emanating from every sphere of this society. Strange though, that mainly the lower classes and the less fortunate are the ones who seem to be responsible for all illegal and immoral activities in this land of ours. At least, no one seems to know who may be guilty from among those who hold prominent positions or those who wheel the finances. Governments must ensure every effort is made to protect citizens who may be vulnerable or likely to fall victim to these practices.

For decades TSTT as a monopoly, has fed off the most vulnerable in this island. Thousands time and time again, had and have been voicing the concern about the high cost of telecommunication services. Over the years queries have been slighted with the approach of pay and then complain. Whom could we have turned to with no alternative and the powers that be, being silent on the matter? With the announcement of pending competitors, we saw citizens breathe a sigh of relief.

Little did we know how long we would have been called upon to hold that very breath. The question is, while we agree that one must allow time for due process, who is ensuring that TSTT acts with responsibility and fairness? What are the facts surrounding interconnectivity? Why is it taking so long?  What about the ninety four percent of us that said we wanted choice?
