No free education at UTT

THE EDITOR: I am an engineering student at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) and to my surprise we are still required to pay for tuition in our second semester of Jan-May 2006. As far as I am aware, the Prime Minister announced in his 2005 Budget presentation, free tertiary education for all government institutions effective from Jan 2006. I am writing this to inform you that there is no free education at UTT because as far as they are concerned, there was no correspondence coming from the Ministry of science and technology informing the university about these changes. I guess it was all a political gimmick.
