All in the mind
THE EDITOR: The name B Edghill brings memories of past comedies with another past artiste in Glenn Davis, who is remembered for throwing political barbs at two (former) government ministers in 1981. Mr Edghill’s analysis of the plight of the African diaspora in the Caribbean is unquestionable and the answers to the burning questions he posed were dealt with by an African tele-evangelist during the Black History Month. The preacher used Isaiah 19 in the Word of God to point out the similarity between the Egyptians (ancient) and the present descendants of West Africans. Genesis 9:25 is a more apt prophecy about the descendants of West African slaves. The first fulfillment of that prophecy came as the result of a deceit in diplomatic relations by the Gibeonites towards the children of Israel under Joshua. Josh 9: 1-9, 14, 22-23.
The second fulfillment of this Gen 9:25 law of first mention came in the form of the historic Middle Passage from West Africa to the colonial West Indies. It is said that the slave masters have put in place tenets that would have them in a dominant role for at least three centuries in the same way that a horse is being harnessed. Decadent values in the form of soap operas are part of the conspiracy. The lack of fatherhood in the homes of the Black diaspora is another fulfillment though it is not an excuse to be stuck in this web of negative image. I am yet to read a book written by an African-American entitled Yes I Can but it shows where the effort begins: in the mind.
