Indira prepares for India pageant

Indira returned to TT from Canada to host the television programme, Nah Leaving. The programme is aired on Caribbean Circuit Television, a cable network based in Toronto, Canada, which features interviews, clippings and footage of top TT artistes from cultural events. Nah Leaving attracts 70,000 viewers and is also aired in Jamaica, Barbados, St Lucia and Grenada.

While in India, Indira will be interviewed by the country’s top television personalities. The preliminary judging will include talent, national costume, evening wear and an intelligence segment. For the talent competition she will be dancing to Rikki Jai’s "Mor Tor." The piece will be choreographed by dance tutor Ramnarine Bridgelalsingh. Indira will wear an original costume constructed by the Vikash Company based in Cunupia.

According to the local pageant co-ordinator of the Miss India TT, Mahendra Rampersad, winners from the various countries have been selected based on the delegates’ Indian heritage.

"These people still maintain a high standard of Indian culture in many countries of the world," he said.

Rampersad said that Indira has already caught the attention of many of the Indian-based photographers who have called for private shoots. He is optimistic that she will score high in this competition.

Indira is extremely happy about her trip to India and is looking forward to the competition. She has been preparing herself for the contest over the last three months under the supervision of top beauticians and models.

"It is a dream come through to actually go to India and I am going to do my best to represent this country," she said, adding that she would like to visit the set where an Indian movie is being filmed.

"Looking at the movies on the screen is fascinating but I would like to see how it’s done with my own eyes," she said.

Indira is an admirer of former Miss World Aishwarya Rai and is impressed by her beauty and ability to get ahead in life despite the many problems that persist from day to day.
