Panday is correct
THE EDITOR: An imbroglio involving the Prime Minister, the President, the Chairman members of the EBC and the leader of the Opposition, Mr Panday looms large, I am convinced that Panday is correct in calling for the rescinding of the appointments of Dr Masson, Mr Lynch, Mr Mc Knight and Mr Charles. Sections 71(3) of the constitution of TT states: "The Chairman and other members of the Commission shall be appointed by the President, after consultation with the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition." Based on this Panday’s vehemence, albeit wrath, at these appointments is understandable and justified if he was not consulted by the President. If this is sadly so, then the President should recognise that he has erred and do the honourable thing by apologising to Panday and acting swiftly to bring closure to this matter. Alternatively, the "appointees" should be decent enough to hand in their resignations to President Richards in order to save face and ease the pressure put on him to dismiss them.
