Poorly educated unable to do right thing
The Editor: Every day the nation is bombarded with stories of crime and accidents. The youths are unfairly made out to seem foolish and carefree. However, blame is misplaced since the problem lies with general poor education. Basically, if people do not know the right thing, they cannot do the right thing. It is regrettable that lessons in drivers education is not addressed on a national level. The Government provided wide roads but never educated the public in the correct use of them. That is the reason why the youths are seen overtaking at junctions all over Tobago. The same applies for courtesy and etiquette. Trinidad and Tobago needs a drastic public education policy as far as treating ones fellow man is concerned. It seems unbelievable that we treat each other so badly, devoid of human respect. Our places of worship are always filled and feteing never stops while we have ghettos and vagrancy in the land. Regardless of the number of countries in the world where similar conditions exist, this is not normal. The Government, the THA and private organisations must provide education to counteract the negatives dished out by foreign television and " laissez faire" attitudes. Positive change is possible if only there is the will for it to be so. Use the mass media for positively educating the country. Bill Major, Scarborough
