Arima — the yuckiest town
THE EDITOR: Within recent times it has become increasingly difficult to walk comfortably in the streets of Arima. Once referred to as the only Chartered Borough, this community can now be re-named "the dirtiest town or city in TT." I am calling on Minister Pennelope Beckles, Minister of Public Utilities and the Environment to take a walk through the streets to experience inhaling the stench, especially near the maxi taxi stands and around the famous ‘Dial’. There is refuse scattered everywhere, especially on Saturday and Sunday mornings, as Arima can also be called "a city that never sleeps." Doctors are making a mint, every office is crowded from dawn to dust and, of course, the Health Facility is useless. There are multitudes of sick people everywhere, especially as the water supply is almost non-existent in several areas in Arima, place of water. Ha! Recently I attempted to use the washroom in an eating place near the Port-of-Spain maxi stand, I almost fainted. One toilet was not working and the other was littered. There was no water. Where are the health inspectors? Are they hibernating again? Minister of Government, you will have to answer to a higher power some day. Nothing lasts forever. ALICE LEWIS Arima
