The release said that some 50 TT students are currently resident in Jamaica, the University of the West Indies Mona Campus.

About 20 of these students are in residence on the Mona Campus, with the other 30 in various accommodation throughout Kingston.

The release said: “The High Commission has been in contact with the Administration of the University of the West Indies and has been assured that the Safety Management Services of the Mona Campus has arranged for secure accommodation for TT students presently on the University’s campus. “ Due to the high demand for hotel accommodation, there is a limited number of hotel rooms available within the Kingston area. The Government of Trinidad and Tobago has authorised the High Commission to accommodate the off-campus students, for whom secure accommodation has not been guaranteed. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to collaborate with its mission in Jamaica to keep abreast of developments pertinent to the safety and security of all TT students currently at the University of the West Indies Mona Campus.”
