Boy, 15, stabs girl, 17, to death

Dead is Crystal Navisha Bedasie, mother of a 20-month-old baby girl. Bedasie is originally from Penal.

A 15-year-old boy who was described as a secondary school drop-out, has since been assisting police with their investigations.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred at at about 8.30 pm, outside the wooden house where Bedasie lived with the suspect and his family. Newsday learnt that about a week ago, Bedasie went to live with the family after she was thrown out of a nearby house where she was staying with relatives. According to resident Toy Rampersad, the boy was babysitting Bedasie’s child when an argument over money broke out. Rampersad recalled that Bedasie “always nagging him about thieving her monies.” And on Friday night, during a similar argument, the boy allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed Bedasie several times in her upper body.

She ran to the road and collapsed. She was rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital where she died while undergoing emergency treatment.

Jennifer Marryshow, the PNM councillor for Marabella West, claimed that she had spoken to Bedasie a few days before about her problems and had offered to help.

“Wednesday she came and said that she wanted somewhere to stay and a job. She had even agreed to work with CEPEP. I was trying to assist her.”

At the time of the incident, Bedasie, the suspect and the baby girl were alone in the house.

Southern Division Homicide detectives are investigating.
