But apart from comedy and the corporate world, Narine is heavily involved with the Catholic Church and has ministered and preached throughout the Caribbean. He is also a trained youth minister and conducts retreats, seminars and workshops. This married father of two is also a motivational speaker with a deep love for people and his country.
His vision is to restore family values through the gift of comedy. As a result he has been doing family plays such as Grease, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Robin Hood, Comedians Can Cook and many others over the years. He was also the pioneer of Bollywood theatre staging Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 2004, Kabhie Kushi Kabhi Gham in 2005 and Chalte Chalte in 2006.
He writes and directs his own plays which are normally held at Queen’s Hall or Naparima Bowl and also plays one of the leading roles. Patrons look forward to his productions for the music, dances, costuming, and lighting and of course non-stop comedy. His shows are free of smut and obscenities and are appropriate for all audiences.
The Crazy Catholic is also a national comedian and audiences at the national level appreciate his creativity and performances.
To survive 24 years in comedy in Trinidad and Tobago doing clean jokes require a creative and spontaneous mind. Narine attributes his gifts to Almighty God.
“Without God I would be nothing, he provides the ideas and opens up doors that I could never open” says Narine.
He plans to continue in comedy and is certain that the arts can be an alternative to drugs, delinquency and crime. In this regard, he has given many young actors a break on the national stage and in the theatre.
In his current production Cinderella, seven young people under age 17 are featured along with 13 adults. This play runs until September 28 at Naparima Bowl, San Fernando.
