Man shot dead in Aranjuez Savannah

The killer then simply walked away, leaving stunned eyewitnesses looking on in fear and stopping the cricket game.

The victim Kazim Mohammed, 37, was rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mohammed is reported to be a suspect in the murder of slain drug lord Merlin “Cudjoe” Allamby who was shot dead on the morning of July 20 this year at Aranjuez.

A few hours after the shooting, the savannah which is normally filled with children flying kites, and members of the public jogging or enjoying the scenery there on Sunday afternoon, had few joggers and a small group playing cricket.

The few who were there and who witnessed the shooting death said the gunman, a young man in his 20s walked from the western side of the savannah and made his way toward Mohammed who was enjoying a cricket match.

“The gunman just walked up to Kazim and pump two bullets in his chest, like nobody’s business, and then simply walked away without even looking back,” said an eyewitness.

He added that people were so stunned that they looked on in horror but when they realised what they had witnessed they began running in all directions, and a few friends of Kazim’s placed him in a car and took him to the hospital.

A party of officers from the San Juan and Morvant Police Stations went to the savannah and interviewed several persons. The killing pushed the murder toll to 406.
