DirecTV launches premium HD package

The HD package was launched on Tuesday, at the Carousel Room, Fiesta Plaza, MovieTowne, Invaders Bay, Port-of-Spain.

The DirecTV Plus HD DVR allows customers total control of their programming in HD, with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio and up to five times better picture quality than standard TV. Subscribers will have the power to record, pause and rewind and record up to either 200 hours of standard definition programming or 50 hours of high definition programming. Customers will require a high definition television in order to receive the high definition programming as well as the DirecTV Plus HD DVR.

Speaking at the launch, Bernard Pantin, DirecTV General Manager, said the company has seen tremendous growth in its 12 years of existence and continues to find ways to make the customer experience better. He noted that the company now offers more channels at a lower price than the initial cost of the service, which has dropped from the initial hookup of $2,400 in 1997 to $199 today.

“We are very excited about the growth of DirecTV in the Caribbean and in Trinidad and Tobago in particular. DirecTV is continually trying to find ways to serve customers better; our programme fees are the most competitive on the market, and at a time when the market is opening up and there is a lot of competition and we remain committed to being the number one paid TV provider,” Pantin said.

DirecTV’s exclusive HD Channels include Discovery HD on Channel 1004; sports enthusiasts can also enjoy their favourite games with crisp quality image and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, with live coverage of the 2009 MLB Extra Innings from April 6 to October 4 and some 2008/2009 La Liga games.

Direct TV is the first satellite or cable provider to confirm that they made the high decimation feed available for MLB Extra Innings. Music fans can also look forward to high definition programming with MTV HD live, which provides a complete music experience in high definition, with entertainment programmes which include MTV Unplugged; VH1 music experience in high definition and CMT Crossroads.

Also, Voom on DirecTV HD consists mainly of a line up of high definition TV networks which covers varies genres including arts and entertainment, fashion and style and travel and sports.

DirecTV customers can get the DirecTV Plus Hd DVR installed for an introductory price of $699.14 and receive DirectTV Hd channel 1004 and FOX HD Channel 1003 in their basic package at no extra cost.
