Marlene’s off Broadway theatrics

In her normal off Broadway theatrical style, she was screaming to the Government representatives and of course to the live cameras – “Have a heart nah man, have a heart!” (The San Fernando East MP looked gingerly all around the room when the word heart was mentioned). The goodly lady was admonishing the Government for bringing a bill to Parliament that did not satisfy her party’s high sense of care and concern for the “poor”, dear delinquent youths who sometimes run afoul of law enforcement agencies and may have to face the steel “shackles” on their feet.

In summary, her contribution on this matter was that in other countries these little dear hearts were given every opportunity to shorten their enshackled time by the authorities. I wondered if this was feigned indignation to cast an aura of draconian intent on the proposed bill, in order to gain political points as per Hinds and co-leader Rowley. My assessment, sadly, was that this was not so. She may have genuinely felt aggrieved that gun brandishing little louts will be unfairly treated.

And there my good citizens, is the “cause d’?tat” for crime levels growing to what it was under the PNM. The chickens came home to roost as a result of the molly-coddling of gangsters and lawlessness. Thank God that these utterances are limited to a deposed cast!
