Robbery at Penal Western Union

The thieves managed to escape on foot with an undisclosed sum of cash and investigators at the Penal Police Station were up to yesterday afternoon combing the area in an attempt to arrest the duo.

According to a police report, the station received an anonymous telephone call at about 10.30 am Wednesday about a robbery that was in progress at the business place located a short distance from the Penal/ San Fernando Maxi Taxi Stand.

Officers, led by Cpl Khan, immediately went to the scene. However, the two thieves had already escaped.

The lone employee, a female, told the lawmen that 15 minutes earlier she arrived at work.

She told police the unmasked thieves barged into the business place pointed the gun at her and demanded she hand over all the cash from the cash register.

The report added that the employee, fearful for her life, handed over the monies to the men who then ran off.

Up to 3.30 pm yesterday no arrests were made and PC Singh is continuing investigations.
