Orisha Olokun Festival in Moruga tomorrow
This year’s festival will be held at La Retrechtt Beach, Grand Chemin, Moruga as the site of this year’s festival. As usual it will be hosted by Egbe Onisin Eledumare.
This year’s Olokun Festival is open to the public. There will be return-trip maxi-taxi transport and refreshments provided at a small cost.
The celebration will begin with prayers at Egbe Onisin Eledumare, Simeon Road at 4.30 am and there will be a main pick-up point at the western Entrance of PTSC in Port-of-Spain close to the lighthouse between 6 and 7 am. Pick-ups will be available en route.
The week of activities will also feature the screening of an ocean based film The Last Reef at Digicel’s IMAX theatre on Sunday October 12 from 9.30 am to 11.30 am. The film will be followed by a talk on ecological sustainability, ocean management, and African sacred science. This year’s Festival day will feature a small symbolic boat regatta with the Venezuelan contingent as well as a concert on the beach featuring local and Venezuelan entertainers. Visiting will be international Olokun festival representatives from Venezuela and the African continent as well as other international observers.
For this year’s Olokun Festival the colour code is white, but persons can wear colours representing their Shrines or Orisha. Items of offering include: cooked yam; cola nuts; cowries; and fruit.
