Talk Tent on March 7-9

The longest running Talk Show in Trinidad and Tobago, Talk Tent was first produced in 1983 by Paul Keens-Douglas and over the years has established itself as an integral part of the post-Carnival presentations. Indeed, it is a show that has developed a faithful following and continues to attract a wide cross-section of the culture-loving public.

Last year the show celebrated its 30th Anniversary with gala performances at Queen’s Hall. With its motto “Where Talk Is Art”, the Talk Tent has focused on highlighting the variety of styles within the oral traditions and has provided a platform for many artistes who need its particular ambience to showcase their style and type of material. Many of the artistes who perform at the Tent can only be heard at that venue.

The Talk Tent’s clean, quality humour, and creative material, makes it excellent entertainment for general and family oriented audiences. Over the years the Talk Tent has featured a wide range of special guests and this year will be no different, as joining the cast will be popular vocalist Nicole De Coteau and dramatist-storyteller Avion Crooks.

Other performers include Paul Keens-Douglas, Miguel Browne, Felix Edinborough - the Pierrot, Farida Chapman, Talkcalypso Champ “Short Pants”, Singing Emcee David Bereaux and the thought-provoking team of “Roy and Gloria”.

An unsponsored show, the Talk Tent depends on the support of its fans, supporters and those who recognise the importance of its role in preserving this aspect of Caribbean culture. Lucky patrons will be able to win not only beautiful hampers, but the famous “door” prize. It’s the only show in town where you get a real door! Books, CDs and DVDs of the various artistes will also be available at special show prices.

Tickets are available at Cleve’s, Crosby’s, RIK Trincity/Gulf City and Queen’s Hall. Call 632-1647 or 624-1284 for more information.
