Day pass for media at Salybia
It was meant to be a day of relaxation and fun in the breathtaking ambiance at SNRS where guests were invited to sample of the Christmas menu and granted full access to the pool activities after lunch.
In his welcome address, Ronald Boynes, Chairman, SNRS told the media that they were extremely privileged to have them (the media) spend Sunday with them. He said, “We know you have plenty options. But we certainly want to bring to the fore... that SNRS is just that place in our country that you can come to relax and enjoy an array of amenities in a region that I deem to be one of the blessed places on earth, with our long coastline, our forest with terrific flora and fauna and in that setting, we present to you the SNRS.”
The resort was opened some ten years ago. Boynes noted that it is very important that the country has world class facilities that people could choose to enjoy, and it is the mission of the SNRS to provide world class amenities.
He explained, “Over the last several months we have done some upgrades to our resort. We are now looking to re-brand our resort. We are partnered with an international tour company through our agents in the United States, Hospitalities Management Solutions, and we are now online via travelositybooking.com and orbits just to name a few. So we are exposed to the world, as we welcome them to our neck of the woods to enjoy SNRS.”
Boynes then introduced American Chef Louis Callahan, who previously worked at Chaud and Carlton Savannah. Callahan said, “It is amazing what we do here. We are going to take this to the next level. We are really looking forward to doing some nice stuff. Today we are trying my Christmas menu and hope you enjoy everything.”
Unfortunately, as inviting as the meal looked, it was not as pleasing on the palate. A tweaking here and there should fix that problem.
Former Minister of Sports Roger Boynes, General Manager, spoke of ensconcing himself in the hospitality industry since his ministerial portfolio. He said, “I have decided to take this product (SNRS) and focus on the tourism industry and make it second to none in TT.”
He spoke of the resources, especially the eco resources in Trinidad, imploring guests to visit the Rio Seco Waterfalls to experience nature at its best, and have a zip-line experience.
“We welcome you to also go to the Salybia River and do some kayaking. We can take you fishing; there is a small islet next to the river. There is so much you can do on this side of the island,” said Roger Boynes who beseeched members of the media to get the message out about the North East Coast. He said, “It has been a well kept secret for far too long.”
Roger also spoke about the Christmas Village where the Sangre Grande Community Development Foundation in conjunction with the villages from Matelot to Matura will be hosting “Salybia Christmas Village” for a six-week period, to capture the things remembered most of all at Christmas, like the food, the lights, the music and the safe fun. He said, “TT Christmas traditions are so rich and need to be promoted.”
From Saturday November 15, 2014, the Christmas Village will be located at SNRS utilising the grounds of the front car park area and the Turtle Deck (the large paved space to the right of the pool).
The Village will use the flora and fauna of the North East Coast and fused with many traditions of our local Christmas. From a Poinsettia Christmas Tree and Santa’s Corner to “real home-made ginger beer” and parang music.
Members of the media were then taken on a tour of the facilities, and rooms that are still being worked on. It is the Boynes’ intention that those works will be completed in time for Christmas, since they are anticipating a number of vacationers at the SNRS for the Christmas holiday season.
Entertainment on the day came from one man band Terry Pinto who did a wide range of selections of yesteryear, parang band Pebbles and deejay music. The day was indeed a fun day with quite a bit of relaxation. From Saturday November 15, 2014, the Christmas Village will be located at SNRS utilising the grounds of the front car park area and the Turtle Deck (the large paved space to the right of the pool).
