Lopinot body identified, year’s murder toll 316

The dead man was later identified as 22-year-old Anthony Roach from Union Village, Claxton Bay.

According to a police report, at about 7 am a police officer who was on his way home spotted the man’s body at the side of the road, near the 1 3/4 mile mark.

An investigating officer said the body bore two bullet wounds to the back of the head. It is believed that the man was killed elsewhere, and his body dumped at Lopinot Road.

A party of police officers from the Arouca Police Station arrived on the scene, along with the District Medical Officer who viewed the body and ordered its removal to the Forensic Science Centre where it was later identified. A motive is yet to be determined for the killing.

In a separate incident, at about 1 pm three men dressed in camouflage outfits went to a house at Alexis Street, off Pashley Street, Laventille where they opened fire on 32-year-old Brendon Cambridge.

Police said the three men ran out of the house, boarded a vehicle which sped off.

Cambridge was found by neighbours lying on the floor of his home with multiple gunshot wounds.

He was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment. The murder toll for the year now stands at 316.

Investigations are continuing in both incidents.
