Bishop’s girls for Global Young Leaders Conference

The theme of GYLC is “The Leaders of Tomorrow preparing for the Global Challenges and Responsibilities of the Future.” Students will interact with key leaders and newsmakers with powerful influence over politics, finance, culture and diplomacy and will take part in a carefully designed curriculum, which includes thought provoking simulations that build leadership skills.

According to Dean of Academic Affairs for the Congressional Youth Leadership Council, which is the organisation that sponsors GYLC, Dr Marguerite C Regan, “The GLYC aims to provide scholars with the opportunity to collaborate with their peers from around the world to both study and resolve golbal conflict When ideas and points of view are shared, the true results of the conference are realised.”

Students attending GYLC in China will travel to Beijing, Hangzhou and Shanghai, where among other activities, they will meet with Foreign Affairs Diplomats and hike along the Great Wall. In Europe, students will travel through Vienna, Budapest and Prague while attending a luncheon at Vienna City Hall and participate in case study and field exploration of the Terezin Concentration Camp.

The GYLC in the United States will travel from Washington DC to New York City. During the conference, GYLC scholars will visit international embassies and engage with the United Nations Speaker. GYLC culminates with the Global Summit simulation in which students apply what they’ve learned throughout the conference as they debate, negotiate and build coalitions dealing with issues such as foreign aid, global warming, cooperative efforts in space, terrorism and human rights.
