I had a dream
THE EDITOR: I had a budget dream some nights ago. A new government was well liked by the people, because of their honest budget. No hide and seek methods. This new government had promised the following:
a) Those who were inflicted with some terrible organ disease had no cause to ask the population for financial help because $100 million was put aside for such cases. God smiled on this government.
b) Old age pensioners and government pensioners were given $100 every nine months. More smiles and votes.
c) The VAT on basic food items was reduced to five percent and price control officers were employed to avoid smart business loopholes. Also, no VAT on funerals.
d) The family of people who died at the age of 90 years and over were given $10,000, rich or poor, to help with funeral expenses. And yes! No VAT on grief (funerals) was ever charged. Not many can be blessed to reach this age, these days, so this was not hard on the treasury. Simple logic.
e) Violent and disrespectful children (parents unable to cope with) were removed and sent to special schools for training. Budget for the poor families very humane. Less future cries eh!
f) Men, single, married or divorced who were sexually bent on increasing the population, without any feelings of love for their children, were caught and taken to farms in Caroni to work and plant food. Their salary and some of the food were given to the mothers of their unwanted children. This helped the budget and slowed down crime. Because more children are brought into society — this way more crimes, because of less jobs.
g) Poor children, but brilliant, were given university education free. However, whenever they qualified they were given government jobs and part of other salary went into a special fund, so that others who followed benefitted from this chain-reaction fund. Result — less funding from government.
h) A government funding medical card (not smart) were given to old age pensioners and government pensioners, for discounts on all medical drugs until death.
