Cry for 13-year-old girl

THE EDITOR: Kindly publish this article for the attention of the national community, Ministry of Education and the relevant police authority. My attention was drawn to an incident which occurred to a Std V student at a Government School in the North Eastern Educ-ational Division — County St David.

The child has become pregnant and because of this, this 13-year-old girl cannot take up her place at a Government Secondary School. Seemingly she has done well at the SEA Examination. I am deeply grieved as I am a parent and teacher. I deal with hurting children and many come to me loaded with hurts. I counsel and I identify with their emotional pains; sometimes weeping with them. I just don’t understand how adults can sexually abuse children who trust them. When a child is sexually abused:

1) Her childhood joys and happiness are taken away from. 2) She has lost the normal experience of growing up through her teens with friends, teachers and relatives. 3) She has lost her trust in men even in her male relatives. 4) She perhaps ask where is God in my distress? 5) Where is my daddy? 6) She has been turned around in a different direction. 7) She most often, falls through the crack taking her offspring with her to add to the growing number of lost people. I am weeping and hurting as I write for the many children who have been destroyed and are being destroyed daily everywhere. Can those in authority help these mutilated children? Can someone help to rehabilitate the perpetrators of these serious crimes against these flowers of the nation? Can those in authority help this particular country-child whose life has been so seriously interrupted physically, socially, emotionally. This child is a precious soul as all others are. Ministry of Education, police authority and child support systems, I sincerely appeal for your help for this young girl whom I have never seen.
