What can TTUTA do?
THE EDITOR: This article was written as a result of an incident that occurred to a teacher at the Chaguanas Junior Secondary School in December 2003. The teacher was correcting exam papers in the staffroom of the school when the leg of the chair she was sitting on broke and she fell, hurting her back in the process. Let me add that the said teacher has been a financial member of TTUTA for the past 25 years as well as the TTUTA representative at the time of the incident. A letter was written to the Union’s head office in Curepe, hand delivered and received by TTUTA’s personnel, but went unanswered. Furthermore, not even a phone call was received from TTUTA’s office. This leaves me to wonder: What is TTUTA’s real purpose? Why are you teachers paying dues to TTUTA? When a situation arises, they can’t respond far less assist... a total waste of time! All teachers must question TTUTA’s policy of what they can/cannot do. RUDY PERSAD Chaguanas
