Fearless leader needed

THE EDITOR: Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Trinidad and Tobago is in a state of monumental crisis brought on by murders and kidnappings. This is the social context as it currently stands. The social context often dictates the emergence of a leader.

That is the law of leadership plain and simple. This is what separated George W Bush from John Kerry and is the same principle that saw the emergence of Gandhi and Martin Luther King.

What we need in this country is a fearless leader who will look the problem in the eye and tackle it head on. What we don’t need is five more years of inept leadership.

We don’t need academics who want to forever pander to all groups by standing on a razor thin fence and never having an opinion on an issue. The speeches of two former NAR ministers at the Divali Nagar demonstrates just how "blinkered" they are. It is they who live in ivory towers and have totally lost touch just as they did in 1990. The return of Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj is simply a natural part of the evolution of the national politics. This is hard knocks politics at its best. Bas and Ramesh were once a tremendous duo. The charismatic meets the rationale.
