Sesame Street fiasco

THE EDITOR: Pupils of primary schools in the county of Caroni need an apology from the Minister of Education — Senator Hazel Manning and her agents: re the schools supervisors of the Caroni Education District for not being afforded the opportunity to see the show Sesame Street Live as they had been promised.

Principals were told at a meeting with the schools supervisors of the Caroni District that free transportation would be provided for all pupils going to see the show at the Centre of Excellence. This was to be done by the Public Transportation Service. Pupils were all excited to have an opportunity to see their favourite Sesame Street characters that they have bonded with from an infant age. So school principals, with thousands of dollars in hand, assembled at the district education office at the appointed date and time to purchase hundreds of tickets for their schools, only to be told that someone had bungled on the agreement and that transportation could no longer be provided.

Do you know this meant to hundreds of children? Shattered dreams. Their parents, having borrowed the ticket money from neighbours, friends or relatives, only for the children to be told that it is no longer possible for them to see the show. Why should the Ministry of Education, knowing fully well that it is impossible to deliver, make such an undertaking? Someone needs to explain to these hundreds of pupils what went wrong and certainly apologise to them.
