Dr Charles is an angel
THE EDITOR: In February of this year I was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer. I had been going to a private doctor for some time and she informed me that I needed to undergo chemotherapy which was a treatment I dreaded doing as I had heard and seen much about the effects it has on the human body. After much convincing by my family and friends I finally made my decision to do the chemo treatments and I opted to do it at the North West Regional Health Authority at Ward 44. The main reason for this was due to the cost, as the private treatments were exorbitant and beyond my financial reach. It was at Ward 44 that I met Dr Kenneth Charles. With a pleasant bedside manner, he made me feel very comfortable and he took the time to provide me with a detailed explanation of what the chemo treatments involved and how it would be administered. The dedication, commitment and friendliness of the other doctors and nurses I interacted with on Ward 44 soon put all my fears behind me. I had six sessions of chemo over a four month period and at the end of it I was told by Dr Charles that although my body responded very well to the treatments and the cancer was in remission he recommended that I have surgery to remove my spleen as a precautionary measure to prevent any recurrence of the cancer. I was subsequently warded at Ward 42 for surgery. Again I had initial misgivings about having the surgery done there but once again I could not have asked for better treatment from the surgeons, doctors and nursing staff. Today, I am on the road to recovery and I must extend my heartfelt thanks to the staff at Ward 44 and Ward 42 who did their jobs with efficiency and commitment. To Mr John Rahael, Minister of Health, you have very dedicated workers at the hospitals. Please treat them accordingly. ME E GOMEZ Diego Martin
