Corporate TT failed Soca Warriors

THE EDITOR: It is disgusting to see how the business sector has decided to use the achievement of the Soca Warriors to advertise their companies. Imagine Trinidad and Tobago with its vibrant manufacturing industry and booming oil and gas economy have contributed very little financial help or support to our senior national football team in its quest leading up to the final game in the qualifications. A great amount of thanks is owed to the Telecommunications Service of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) and S M Jaleel (Busta) for their commitment and dedicated financial support, which they gave to our Warriors.

I hope after the euphoria of the 2006 World Cup is past the business sector, which has not contributed, can come aboard to make a worthwhile financial contribution to our Warriors in other World Cup campaigns. Financial support is desperately needed for our local leagues (Pro league, Super league and Associations). I would like to recommend to companies, which are geographically located close to schools which participate in the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) not only to lend financial support but also to arrange sport workshops to help those schools/players to prepare themselves for the technological and mental aspects of the evolving and advancing game of soccer.

We must take into consideration that our Soca Warriors has on average the oldest players on the team in the CONCACAF region, and developing our players at an early age will boost the standard of our game. We must also put in place a good structure to harness the talent that we have. There are five stadiums throughout Trinidad and Tobago and the addition of the Brian Lara Stadium will surely encourage the development of football and other sports in our country. Kudos must be given to the players; technical staff; Mr Leo Beenhakker; and Mr Austin Jack Warner for making a nation’s dream come true. I enclose these sentiments in German to all the Soca Warrior” true die-hard fans. “Win gehen nach Deutschland” We are going to Germany. “Gehen Trinidad Gehen” — Go Trinidad Go

See you all in Germany.
