PM the job training programme causing stress
THE EDITOR: Please permit a space in your newspaper to write about the Government’s unemployment programmes. First of all, OJT is not ensuring the trainees get their pay. Half of the trainees don’t receive their stipend and the people employed at STTE as Field Supervisors are not checking up on their trainees to make sure they work the full six months and get their stipend. Most of the trainees are poor and can’t afford to work anywhere because their grades are low and so they are happy when the OJT programme give them an opportunity to work. They get robbed not only when they don’t get their promised stipend, but also when they choose a desirable field tot rain in and end up with something less or more they didn’t sign up for. It is a complete waste of time if someone with little grades gets to work in an office and someone with at least three in a certain subject get to work in housekeeping and cleaning programmes. But isn’t that what the training programme is all about? You know nothing in something and they train you to know everything? How’d you think Marketing Managers and Politicians get to where they at? Training of course. So why can’t a person with a 3 in Social Studies or a 2 in POA aim to be in the Marketing sector but one with a 4 or 5 in OP, could get a position in ‘big places’? Secondly MUST is holding back unemployment people. The Hospitality sector isn’t just denying youths a job, but have them idling. Some displaced OJT trainees were told that they could sign up for MUST, but I’m sure they are not getting called in. Mr Minister do something to help our youths than just putting out programmes and half of the people are not getting called to work. Give everyone who sign up for MUST a fair chance and fair placements and have their field supervisor to check up on them instead of sitting behind desks and collecting salaries. G ANGEL Carenage
