Water for few

THE EDITOR: We, the residents of Robert Street, Bank Village, Carapichaima have been experiencing severe water problems for the past few years. In recent times, the situation has worsened and has now become critical.

The water main that was laid down over 40 years ago was placed in the street for only a few metres, which represents only part of Robert Street.

Over 25 customers are hooked up at the end of this four inch main carrying pipes taking water up to 300 metres away. On any given day there is only a trickle of water, but for the majority of time there is no water at all.

WASA has conducted several surveys in the past, whereby the residents had complained about the poor water supply, however nothing has been done up to the present time.

In order to solve this problem, WASA should lay down 400 metres of a new four inch main so that these consumers can receive a reliable water supply.

The area is a built up area with many families and the water is of vital importance.

This is the 21st century and we are not living in the backward ages, WASA should therefore take the necessary action in order to provide and maintain a reliable supply to the customers who pay their exorbitant bills as soon as we receive them. When you call WASA for a truck borne supply, it takes weeks for you to receive this. You have to constantly keep calling them to remind them, as sometimes the customer service representatives fail to put in the order and a new request has to be made, which results in further delay in receiving water.

We hope that this plea does not fall on deaf ears and seek your assistance so that the residents will get relief in the near future.
