Disaster waiting to happen

THE EDITOR: Now that the OSHA Bill is closer to becoming law, I am very disturbed about a disaster waiting to happen. For the past year or so, I have noticed that trucks carrying LPG tanks are being transported in a haphazard manner. These tanks bounce against each other, causing friction, and with gas around this can cause a major fire. What concerns me very much though is the fact that a particular driver of a truck lives about 100 feet from a Petrotrin well. His truck filled with gas tanks parks overnight and sometimes you can smell the gas escaping from the tanks.

What compounds the problem is that there are houses built around this well and these people cook with open flames, with gas emission coming out of the well. This well is situated in Mahadeo Trace, Clarke Road. I am calling on both companies Ramco and Petrotrin to do something before a major disaster happens. What I suggest is that Ramco trucks loaded with gas tanks should remain on their compound after working hours, and Petrotrin should look at how close houses are built around wells that are giving off gas emission.
