Glenda arrives in Washington DC
Newly-appointed Canadian High Commissioner Camille Robinson-Regis leaves next month for Ottawa but there is no word about who will replace Donna Carter as TT’s High Commissioner to South Africa.
Contacted yesterday in Washington DC, the former Attorney General said she arrived there last Monday and is now going through the process of receiving her diplomatic accreditation to the United States.
Morean Phillip added that she expects to begin her work soon. Asked if she knew whether another former AG John Jeremie has replaced her as TT’s High Commissioner to the UK, Morean-Phillip said she had no idea who would be replacing her in London, where she has been based since 2003.
When Newsday contacted TT High Commission officials in London yesterday, they said the Foreign Affairs Ministry has not informed them about who will replace Morean-Phillip. They said the Commission’s head of chancery, Victoria Farley, has been appointed to act as High Commissioner until a replacement is found.
Robinson-Regis, who received her instruments of appointment in February, said she will be going to Canada next month to take up her duties there. She had delayed her departure because of the illness of a close relative.
Government officials were unable yesterday to indicate whether or not a replacement has been found for Carter.
Foreign Affairs Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon previously said Carter had not been able to perform her duties because of illness and her tenure as High Commissioner to South Africa ends at the end of April.
