Watkins heads TT at World Youth Games
CARIFTA Games double champion Rhonda Watkins heads a nine-member Trinidad and Tobago team for next week’s 3rd IAAF World Youth Track and Field Championship in Canada.
Watkins, who copped the CARIFTA Under-17 long jump and high jump titles, will also have outstanding sprinter Kelly-Ann Baptiste with her on the team for the July 9-13 global Under-18 meet. Baptiste won the sprint double at last month’s Barbados Track and Field Classic (BARITAC) meet and ran a personal best 23.06 seconds as she chased the Cayman Islands’ Cydonie Mothersill (22.94) and local champion Fana Ashby (23.05) in the women’s 200 metres at the National Championship two weekend’s ago. Cory Gibbs, the 2002 CARIFTA Games Under-17 high jump champion, is also in the line-up.
Squad: Rhonda Watkins, Kelly-Ann Baptiste, Monique Cabral, Abigail David, Denelle DeVerteuil, Crystal Skeete, Jamil James, Marcus Duncan, Cory Gibbs.
