Bahrain coach complains about pitch

BAHRAIN football coach Luka Peruzovic has expressed concerns over the condition of the Hasely Crawford Stadium ground following his first session at the venue on Tuesday evening.

The Yugoslav-born long haired coach, who has worked for some time in Belgium, was in a talkative mood after the session under lights.

The Trinidad and Tobago football team had preceded the visitors for an earlier training session under Dutchman Leo Beenhakker.

"We enjoyed our session but suppose they will arrange the pitch better because these are two teams that try to play football and the pitch is a bit hard and some parts are not too good. We have a nice pitch in Bahrain," Peruzovic said in his opening comments.

He added that his squad had recovered from their long journey and were an ambitious bunch keen to attain the success that would come with qualifying for the World Cup Finals in Germany next year.

"The players have recovered from the long trip. We were in a plane for about 24 hours but they are very ambitious and that is most important so I think I will be ready," he said. "I knew before we started that we are in a better position and we knew we have to travel two times. We have no excuses and we will try to do our best. I know TT is a good experienced team. But we have also some good players and I hope we can have a good match," Peruzovic said. "Before this stage, no one really knew about Bahrain and now when we are in this stage, everywhere people talk about Bahrain. It is a good country and very ambitious," he said.

When asked what would be the perfect result for his team, he replied "3-0" with a laugh.

"I don’t know about the history (of TT) but I know about the team that have played the last few matches and the new coach. I have seen them play and yes they are a good team," he said.

Peruzovic was certain that no amount of crowd pressure would intimidate his players.

"Our players will love this atmosphere. For them it will be a motivation," he said.
