Taylor: No decision on ‘Farmer’
MELCHIOR TAYLOR, president of the Trinidad and Tobago Boxing Board (TTBB) has made his position clear on local heavyweight boxer Jimmy "Farmer" Joseph’s medical condition. Following the weigh-in ceremony at the Ma Pau Private Members Club in Woodbrook for the proposed women’s title bout between Ria Ramnarine and American Marianne Chubirka on Friday, Taylor said his board has made no decision on the matter. Joseph, who has made it public that he wants to fight former amateur champion Kertson Manswell for the national championship title at anytime, was reportedly refused a title fight in Las Vegas earlier this year. Newsday understands that Farmer was refused the opportunity to fight in the USA because he failed a medical examination. Only recently Dr Calvin Inalsingh, a former president of the boxing board now an ordinary member suggested that Farmer, the national title holder should take an MRI scan before he can enter the ring again. Taylor told Newsday that the board has come to no decision concerning the matter. He said also that the board has not received information from Joseph on his medical situation and is therefore being guided by reports that have come out in the newspapers. Taylor said the board has not received any documentation from officials in the United States who reportedly deemed Joseph medically unfit. He said, however, that the board will not attempt to stop Joseph from fighting if he wants to fight, but he will be required to take the mandatory medical before. Joseph was said to be upset over a report which stated that he would be required to take a local medical examination before he can fight in Trinidad and Tobago again.
