Crown Point in Bajan Tanglewood Stakes

CONNECTIONS of Tobago-bred Crown Point have paid a Bds$900 (TT$2,925) penalty for the colt to race in this year’s Tanglewood Stakes and Trophy, giving the race an international flavour.

This race will be run-off on Sandy Lane Gold Cup Day, March 4 over 2000 metres at Garrison Savannah, Bridgetown, Barbados.

And the 24th running of the Gold Cup over 1800 metres, will have 13 runners including Atul, for which a Bds$900 penalty.

Owners Peter Hackett and Ainsley Mark decided to supplement the son of Freshly Squqezed/NBands O’ Gold who narrowly missed out on winning the local Triple Crown, beaten a short head by Border Dispute in the Royal Oak Derby in September last.

He will challenge 14 other horses in the race including Cat Attack and Midnight Lace for which connections also paid the Bds$900 penalty.

A third and final subscription of $500 for the Tanglewood becomes due on February 10.

The other Trinidad and Tobago runner, Miss Lover Lover, is gearing up for her attack on last year’s winner Feet On Flames and the Gold Cup for which a final subscription of Bds$1,000 was paid.

Despite the penalty paid for Atul, the field has been reduced to 13 with the withdrawal of Favourite Player, Good Intent, Lion Country, Noble Import and an un-named horse.

The Edmund de Freitas-trained Miss Lover Lover is being prepared to run right-handed (clockwise) at the Santa Rosa Park turf course to coincide with the track at the Garrison Savannah.

All challengers will have to contend with in-form Feet On Flames again this year, after the colt cleverly won the recent Coolmore "House Of Champions" Stakes and Trophy over 1800 metres. Feet On Flames gave runner-up Inluck seven kilos and a 1/4 length beating with other Gold Cup entrants finishing behind him in order, third Duc D Fer; fourth Storm Hunter; fifth Birdie Point; sixth Zarad and seventh and last Sharp Impact.

Those in the Gold Cup are: Atul; Birdie Point; Duc D Fer; Feet On Flames; Inluck; Lions Domain; Minnesota; Peace Angel; Sharp Impact; Storm Hunter; Zarad; Miss Lover Lover; Courageous King.

And those in the Tanglewood: Bocelli; Cat Attack; Crown Point; Destiny’s Gold; Don Anglesonny; Flag Woman; Holy Nak; Kabul; Midnight Lace; Pomposettor; Royal Affair; Santa Faye; Secret Prince; Sugar Daddy; Swade.
